El Nuevo Diario newspaper reported last week that the US financed Millennium Challenge Account will expand to four lanes a stretch of the old highway from Leon to Managua. The design will provide pedestrian/bicycle sidewalks, construction of a footbridge at the junction of Nejapa and 12 bus bays on both sides of the road as the road approaches Managua.

Construction will start at the end closest to our island in the next few weeks and is to be complete by the end of 2008. The section to Puerto Sandino will also be paved at this time. This will provide a fully paved highway from the airport to the port at the south end of the island.

Los Suenos Resort will be providing a short 4 minute ferry service to access the Resort from the mainland.
