RSS is  (Really Simple Syndication) is a subscribe and publication model used on an increasing number of websites. It is usually indicated by the little orange button or a text link next to RSS, XML, Atom or Subscribe. They all mean the same thing; this site has an information feed available which can be automatically sent to you rather than you having to manually check our site.

To use it, you will need a news aggregator (also called feed reader). There are a variety of aggregators that you can use, and the news browsers have RRS support built into them.  There are many manufacturers. Some that we know about include the following.

Browsers

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Internet Explorer 7
  • Safari (Mac)

Web-based readers

To make life easier, most sites separate certain content into bchannelsb, similar to TV channels. Each channel has information that is separated by a common theme b ie health, or top stories.

The URL for the Tamarindo Beach 'Latest News' channel is http://nicaprojects.com/index2.php?option=ds-syndicate&version=1&feed_id=1

Do you see a page full of code that looks like this?

Latest News (Latest News) Get the latest news about Tamarindo Beach in Nicaragua. http://nicaprojects.com Tue, 01 May 2007 15:35:55 +0000 FeedCreator 1.7.2 images/stories/rss_big.png Nica Projects http://nicaprojects.com Nica Projects Tamarindo Road Engineers Test Soil Compaction http://nicaprojects.com/content/view/181/ <p><img style="margin: 5px 10px" width="254" height="149" border="1" align="right" title=" " alt=" " src="images/stories/LS_infrastructure/RoadSubstrateTestingApril2007_(Small)_(Custom).JPG" />

If so, you are not using one of the latest web browsers that support in-line newsfeed viewing. You need to copy the URL from the address bar
(http://nicaprojects.com/index2.php?option=ds-syndicate&version=1&feed_id=1)
and paste into the your newsreader of choice.
