  • Best way to travel SA in winter
    Hi

My husband and I are leaving for South America tmrw for 5 months. I already have a great itinerary planned out but now I'm starting to get worried as it is based on friend's travels during summer. ie going south to patagonia first and then working our way up the argentinian west coast and crossing to iguazu falls, working up the brazilian coast to Rio and then across to the pantanal, crossing over into bolivia, doing salt pans, then rurrenabaque and inca trail.
My question is should we rather forget about patagonia and go north into brazil and cross the continent and explore venezuela, columbia etc..? Our one fixed point is that we have booked the inca trail for 13 September.
    Any advice would be great!

  • San Pedro de Atacama to Salar de Uyuni 4WD tour
    Hi all

We are looking for a tour operator who can provide 4WD service to cross from San Pedro de Atacama to Salar de Uyuni and then onward transfer to La Paz. Can anyone recommend a reputable company? We´ve heard of scams of operators selling you on to other companies or cramming too many people into jeeps etc etc

Would very much appreiciate any advice.

    Thanks!

  • Using a mobile phone on my trip to South/North America/Canada etc..
Hi Everyone, hope you are all ok!

I will be going on a trip on the back of a motorbike - 30,000 miles, starting in Buenos Aires, down to the bottom of South America, all the way up the west side through Argentina, Chile (I hope) Bolivia, Peru, Equador, Colombia, Panama, Mexico, US, Canada, Alaska, back down and across to New York..

My question is about mobile phones, as I have never done a trip of this kind before I don't know how it works. I have a UK quad band phone that has a UK sim card in it, I will want to text people at home. Soooo should I put credit on the UK pay as you go sim before I go or buy a new sim when I get to Buenos Aires?? Are they easy to get hold of and add credit to?

Any idea of the costs involved in texting back home and recieving text messages?

    Thanks!!

  • Internet access while travelling in South America
    Hi,

I am hoping someone with recent experience can assist in my dilema.

I have bought a netbook and plan to write emails at my leisure and save them to a USB drive, hoping I can then get to an internet cafe and send them without paying for a lengthy time online.

However, I do have Wireless access on my netbook so will it be worth buying a prepaid internet USB thingy? Does anyone have any experience of the wireless coverage in South America? I dont want to pay a lot for something which ends up being next to useless!

We leave in 3 weeks and plan to go to Santiago, south to Cape Horn, north to Buenos Aires and across to Cusco via Puno, so any experince in these areas will be particularly relevant.

Any suggestions will be welcomed, thanks.

    best wishes,

    Roger
